Transportation Laboratory

Transportation is one of the most basic human needs and rights. Transportation is generally provided by highways, railways, airways and waterways. All modes of transport require an appropriate and safe infrastructure which is designed for that purpose. In our country, a large portion of freight and passenger transport is made by road transportation. A large part of the highway infrastructure investments is transferred to new road constructions and maintenance of existing roads.

The aim of Transportation laboratory is to respond to the research and practice activities of undergraduate and graduate education and engineering solutions of transportation industry needs at all levels. Asphalt concrete mix design and pavement materials such as aggregate and bitumen quality control tests can be carried out in our transportation laboratory.

Laboratory Facilities

In our laboratory;
  • Determination of engineering properties of subgrade and unbound granular pavement layers,
  • Determination of physical and mechanical properties of aggregates
  • Determination of physical and chemical properties of bitumen and
  • Mix design of hot mix asphalt (HMA) layers

can be performed according to the related specifications.

Moreover, consultancy services can be provided by our department for special projects such as traffic regulations and solutions of rural and urban areas, material selection and pavement design of highways, airfield runways and tracks.
